Distant echo: E Coy Commander Peter Cornthwaite briefs PTU officers before an anti-II operation in a country park

Hong Kong Island officers took to the Region's country parks in an anti-illegal immigrant operation on June 21.

Police Tactical Unit Echo Company, and HKI's Anti-II Unit and Crime Headquarters officers conducted the eight-hour operation, which included a comprehensive search of 24 country park trails.

Numerous parks were recently the scene of several robberies that were believed to have been related to IIs.

A number of guesthouses were also raided in the operation.

Echo Coy Commander Peter Cornthwaite said although the number of IIs arrested on HKI in the first five months of the year was down to 134 from the 247 recorded in the same period last year, similar operations would continue.
