Spreading road safety awareness across HKI

Almost 400 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 92 summonses were issued to road users during Hong Kong Island Regional Traffic Day on June 20 and 21.

Some 139 officers from Traffic HKI, Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western District Traffic Teams to patrol violation blackspots. Some 325 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 73 for other traffic offences, while 205 pedestrians and 186 drivers were cautioned for minor traffic offences. Road safety pamphlets and leaflets were also distributed.

Some 1,328 accidents involving casualties occurred on HKI roads in the first five months of the year. Of them, 22 per cent and 72.2 per cent were attributed to pedestrian and driver negligence respectively.
