Get hooked on hockey

To promote the sport among Force members, the Police Hockey Club has arranged summer training sessions for beginners. They take place every Tuesday from June to September, 6.30 pm to 7.45 pm, at the Police Sports and Recreation Club, and about 50 men and women have registered so far.

The Hockey Club provides sticks and balls for all participants and has invited Li Chun-kei, a senior Hong Kong Hockey Association (HKHA) coach, to conduct the sessions covering the game's fundamentals.

The Club has two male teams made up of 55 players and registers for HKHA events annually, along with the occasional overseas match. The Club consists of a good mix of locals and expats and is in the process of forming a ladies team. An encouraging 28 young and enthusiastic female officers have registered for training so far.

Police Hockey Team Captain Eddie Law Tsz-shing said some thought hockey was a dangerous sport, when in fact it was not. He hoped the training would rectify misconceptions and foster interest among Force members and, more importantly, strengthen their team spirit.
