Damaging rave parties closed

(This is a summary of two letters sent to the New Territories South Regional Commander)

Rave parties are detrimental to youngsters and a hotbed of public disturbance.

Police recently mounted an operation at a disco in Sha Tin resulting in a large seizure of drugs and the taking of some 420 youngsters to the police station. Subsequently, the disco closed for business, giving much relief to residents.

A nearby karaoke then became another rave location. It was very close to residents and youngsters frequented the place, often in the small hours, causing a big nuisance to the neighbourhood. Police often conducted checks there as the establishment did not have a proper licence. It has since ceased leasing the premises.

We hope Police will continue to combat the ill effects of rave parties to maintain public order and care for our children. We are most impressed by Siu Lek Yuen Divisional Commander Chau Siu-keung and his colleagues; Sha Tin District Police Community Relations Officer Cheung Kam-po, Assistant PCRO Chow Siu-man and their colleagues.

They have done an excellent job and gained a good reputation in maintaining a very effective communication with various sectors of the community in doing their utmost to preserve our good living environment and public order.
