CS commends Force pride and professionalism

Chief Secretary for Administration Donald Tsang Yam-kuen visited Mong Kok Police Station on July 26, where he was greeted by Acting Commissioner Douglas Lau Yuk-kuen and Kowloon West Regional Commander M Stradmoor. The CS sampled Emergency Unit vehicles and equipment before touring the revamped station, sampling its user-friendly report room and the resource centre's computerised facilities. Mr Tsang said he was impressed by the MK officers' methods in dealing with the public, suspects and colleagues. "There is a lot we can learn from them. The Force culture has become a service culture," he said. Chatting with officers of numerous ranks, Mr Tsang said he found morale was high and they were professional with the right ideals. He said their culture of service was good, commending their professionalism, particularly in the eye of an ever-demanding public. He encouraged them to pursue life-long learning. "The officers are very well motivated. They know their mission, their profession and most of all, they recognise the greatest pride of all - they are public servants with a mission to serve," he said. "That to me is the greatest encouragement and a reflection of morale of the highest order."
Mr Tsang also hailed the Force's efforts to hinder youth crime and drug abuse, and said he was encouraged by news that crime reports fell eight per cent in the first half of the year, over the same period in 2000.
