Cycling the correct way: equipped and road-rule savvy

Road safety education for cyclists was the focus at a Safe Cycling Day organised by Traffic New Territories North Headquarters in conjunction with the Region's Road Safety Campaign Committee at Yuen Chau Tsai Park on July 28.

T NTN Senior Superintendent Wong Sak-pang officiated at the opening ceremony which featured a bicycle parade by 100 cyclists, there to participate in the day's activities.

Safety in cycling was promoted through a series of game stalls, with emphasis placed on obeying traffic signs and traffic lights. Cyclists were also advised on the appropriate outfits to wear in order to maintain high visibility to other road traffic and cyclists when enjoying this healthy pastime.

The T NTN also organised a two-week operation code-named Unicycle commencing August 12. With a view to minimising traffic accidents on strategic road networks the major enphasis was on anti-speeding, anti-tailgating and lane transferring.

Enforcement was strengthened along Tuen Mun, Fanling, Tolo, Yuen Long and San Tin highways following a nine per cent increase in traffic accidents involving injured persons, from 97 in the first quarter of this year to 106 in the second quarter.
