Commemorative medals query

(Translated summary)

I have purchased a set of 1997 commemorative medals consisting of one full size medal and one miniature size medal displayed beneath a riband in the colours of black, magenta and Indian gold. I would like to know:

1. Where should I place the commemorative medal when I wear it?

2. When can I wear the miniature medal?

3. Can I make a replica of the riband and wear it as a medal bar on my working uniform and where should I place it?

According to chapter 15 section 20 paragraph 9 of the Force Procedures Manual, the Commissioner has approved the wearing of the Royal Hong Kong Police Commemorative medals by officers who were serving on the Force on June 30, 1997.

This medal may be worn at certain ceremonies (refer: Procedures Manual cap 15 sect 20 para 2). It should be worn on the left pocket below the official medal bar. On the mess uniform it should be worn on the left lapel, below the collar insignia.

At mess or other social functions such as formal Balls the miniature medal can be worn on mess uniforms.

As these are purely commemorative, it is not appropriate to wear the medal ribbon on Force working uniforms as an official medal bar.
