The Hong Kong Police Force would continue to recruit talented individuals of the right calibre to further improve its services to the community, Commissioner Tsang Yam-pui stated at the Police Recruitment and Publicity Campaign launching ceremony on October 3.

"The Hong Kong Police Force is a large, well-equipped and professional organisation. People are our most important asset. We plan to recruit some 500 police officers during the current financial year and it is our aim to make use of this campaign to appeal to aspiring candidates who have a strong sense of mission and who can meet the stringent requirements of joining the Force and serving the community," said Mr Tsang.

'I will uphold the law and carry out my duties honestly and faithfully without fear or favour', an excerpt from the oath taken by every officer at the Police Training School upon joining the Force, was the inspiration for, and formed the basis of, publicity materials produced for the Campaign, and demonstrates police officers' life-long commitment to serving the community and their pride in being members of the Force.

In addition to two television commercials produced for the Campaign focusing on the professional and caring aspects of police work, the publicity package also features items ranging from posters and newspaper advertisements to billboard advertising in MTR and KCR stations.

"I have no doubt that as the Campaign unfolds, our declaration of commitment and pride will be taken to heart by the people of Hong Kong. I trust that the Campaign will not only attract high quality applicants to join the Force but will also enhance public confidence in, and support for, the Force in our continuing efforts to fight crime in order to guarantee that Hong Kong continues to be one of the safest cities in the world," Mr Tsang said.
