The Oral and Written Communications Course for Police Communication Officers (PCOs) has been jointly developed by the Civil Service Training and Development Institute (CSTDI), the Communications Branch and the Training Development Bureau of the Training Wing.

This is a four-day course which aims to sharpen PCOs awareness of the knowledge, attitudes and skills required when handling 999 calls and to equip them with the necessary oral and writing skills required to efficiently perform these duties.

Case studies and simulation exercises using a language laboratory have been incorporated into the course. CSTDI has also designed a set of post-course self-learning tapes and brochures containing simulated cases, exercises and glossary of terms for participants' post-course instruction.

The first course commenced September 27 with Assistant Commissioner Information Systems Peter Halliday and Chief Superintendent In-Service Training Ho Tse-tong as guest speakers.
