Thirteen officers from Kowloon West Emergency Unit, with the support of Superintendent Leung Hing-ping, donated time and effort assisting with voluntary services organised by the Tsz Wan Shan Tsz Lok Estate Sik-Sik Yuen Ho Chui Multi-Service Centre For Senior Citizens and co-organised by elderly community service centres in Wong Tai Sin, Chuk Yuen and Choi Hung on September 1.

Referred to as a "Tea Break Gathering", the aim of officers participation in this service was to assist with transportation of the elderly to the center.

Under the coordination of Kowloon West Emergancy Unit No. 4 Platoon Commander Woman Inspector Wong Mui and Station Sergeant Mark Chun-nam, officers divided into three teams to carry out their assigned duties.

Team one was responsible for assisting elderly residents who live alone to board the rehabilitation bus to a restaurant in Fung Tak Estate Shopping Center for the event.

Team two was responsible for decorating the venue and greeting elderly citizens from other centres upon arrival.

Team three was responsible for escorting the elderly from Sheng Kung Hui Wong Tai Sin Elderly Society Center and Chuk Yuen Sheng Kung Hui Canon Martin Multi-service Center to Fung Tak Estate Shopping Center.

By 3 pm, all participants had arrived at the "Tea Break Gathering" where they were escorted to their seats. They then participated in a number of activities including simple games, stories by social workers and a lucky draw. The Force volunteers also contributed to the entertainment by singing a song, which was the last item on the programme. Following this, the elderly were safely transported back to their homes.

As a result of their participation in these meaningful voluntary services, officers acknowledged that taking care of the elderly was most important and also contributed positively towards the promotion of the healthy lifestyle concept. They also hope more colleagues will join them in future voluntary services.
