The first 'Indoor Triathlon' was successfully completed in Yau Tsim District in August.
Ten officers successfully completed the course and were presented with souvenirs by Yau Tsim Mong District Fight Crime Committee Chairman Yip Kwok-chung on September 13. "I appreciate the effort of the Police in Yau Tsim District in the maintenance of law and order, and the difficulties they encounter owing to the stressful nature of police work," said Mr Yip. Mr Yip said he also appreciated officers' utilising their own time to keep fit in line with the Force's healthy lifestyle campaign. Yau Tsim is one of the busiest and most demanding Districts. In order to help cope with the stressful environment officers are encouraged to keep fit to help them maintain a positive outlook on life. Football is the favourite sport amongst District personnel but was considered unsuitable to play in the hot, wet summer months. So, the 'Indoor Triathlon' was devised as an alternative which would present both a real challenge to participants and a genuine sense of achievement for those who actually finished. Training and Staff Relations Officer Pang Yiu-nam explained that the concept of an 'Indoor Triathlon' came from Yau Tsim District Commander John Bicknell's previous experience some years ago while attached to an overseas course in Henley, United Kingdom. The idea was to encourage participants to complete three events during the month of August in the Divisional fitness rooms :
(equal to the distance to Wanshan Islands in the Pearl River Delta)
(equal to scaling Mount Everest three times) |
