To further enhance residents' awareness of home security and anti-burglary precautions, Western Police District and the Southern District Fight Crime Committee (DFCC) jointly launched a one-week "Southern District Fight Crime Week" publicity campaign from September 15 to 21.

A one-week "Western District Fight Crime Week" was also organised by Western Police District and the Central and Western DFCC from September 22 to 28.

The campaigns specifically aimed at advising members of the public how they could guarantee their homes were secure and encouraging them to take the initiative and report the discovery of any suspicious persons to the Police.

To further strengthen awareness of the campaign, leaflets and penstands embossed with fight crime slogans were produced with funds granted by the Southern District Council and Central and Western District Council. These items were distributed to the residents to remind them to pay attention to home security and to lock doors and windows properly.

Meanwhile, Western Police District, the Central and Western, as well as the Southern DFCCs held a ceremony on September 28 at Sheung Wan Civic Centre to mark the commencement of the district's "Help People to Help Themselves" activity and the appointment of fight crime ambassadors.

The activity, carrying the theme "join us to fight youth crime", aimed at promoting partnerships among parents, schools and Police to prevent youths from becoming puppets of crime.

During the ceremony an anti-drugs movie was screened. Rehabilitated drug abusers were also in attendance to share their experiences and offer advice against adopting this undesirable and anti-social behaviour.
