PPRB's reply to the media

  • A letter was sent to a Chinese-language newspaper on October 18 in reponse to remarks by a reader criticising the low usage of the senior officers' mess in Caine House.

It was pointed out in the letter that apart from being used by its members, including officers of Superintendent rank or above and also their civilian counterparts in the Force, the mess also provides a venue for holding official functions for Force visitors and guests, staff associations and public liaison functions, and also represents the fine tradition of the Force.

  • A press release was issued on October 24 responding to some newspaper reports that quoted some people criticising the Police for designating a public activity area far away from the venue of East Asia Economic Summit.

The designated public activity area in Harbour Road selected for the East Asia Economic Summit was reasonable and was similar to the arrangement made for the Fortune Global Forum in May, the spokesman stated.

  • The Police expressed their gratitude to residents of Hung Uk Village in a press release issued on October 24 for their cooperation during an operation mounted on October 23 in relation to the arrest of five suspects in connection with a kidnap case.

Commenting on a newspaper report which alleged that while the Police raided a village house sheltering the victims in Hung Uk Village earlier that day, the doors of neighbouring village houses were also forcibly opened, the spokesman stated that while the Police realised that the operation had caused inconvenience to residents, it was hoped that they also understood that the safety of the victims was of paramount importance.

  • The allegation that a junior PTU officer had been disciplined for using the senior officers' toilet in Sha Tin Police Station was totally unfounded.

The remark was made by a Police spokesman in a press release in response to some newspaper reports on October 26.

  • A letter was issued on October 31 to rebut a story in a Chinese-language newspaper which said that some Police officers from Lei Muk Shue Division allegedly took vegetarian meals without payment at Yuen Yuen Institute in Tsuen Wan on the day of the Chung Yeung Festival and the following Sunday October 28.

The letter pointed out that considering the remoteness and the inappropriateness of taking non-vegetarian food to the Institute, the LMS Divisional Commander had given approval to the officers to take vegetarian food there in shifts. The arrangement was also agreed by the person in charge of the Institute.

When replying to the reporter, the PPRB had clearly stated that payment was given to the Institute in the form of a donation, which is a common form of payment endorsed by the Institute.
