A Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) delegation, led by TAC Chairman Cheng Hon-kwan, visited the Traffic Kowloon West Operational Base on November 2 to gain an understanding of the objectives, tactics and effectiveness of police operations used to reduce traffic accidents, future accident reduction initiatives and policing problems. Chief Superintendent Traffic William Tang How-kong introduced the visitors to the Force traffic policies while Traffic Kowloon West Senior Superintendent Fong Kai-cheung briefed them on the organisation and structure of Traffic Kowloon West. Meanwhile, Chief Inspector John Hawksley, Senior Inspector Alex Cheng Kwok and Inspector Stewart Cheung Kai-hoi gave briefings on current and future accident reduction campaigns, the Automated Non-stopper Traffic Enforcement Computer System (ANTECS) and associated Red Light Camera operations. They also highlighted policing problems and demonstrated traffic enforcement equipment. In a thankyou letter to Mr Tang following the visit Mr Cheng Hon-kwan said the TAC members were impressed by the determination of Traffic Kowloon West officers in enhancing road safety as exemplified by the two successful operations "Eagle Eye" and "Sabre Tooth". They also enjoyed the opportunity of seeing and trying out the state-of-the-art enforcement equipment. "We are confident that, with your team's relentless efforts, road safety in Hong Kong will see further improvements," Mr Cheng added.
