It was gold, gold and more gold for members of the Police Shooting Club who competed at the Hong Kong Annual Shooting Championships (HKASC) 2001 recently. Sergeants Stephen Lee Siu-wah and Lau Tung-yuk, Chief Inspector Auxiliary Edgar Yang Joe-tsi and Woman Police Constable Lui Siu-chong nabbed gold medals in rapid firing, centre firing, standard pistol and Ladies' sport pistol events respectively. It was an extra special day for WPC Lui, as she also became the first police officer ever to win the Ladies' sport pistol event in Hong Kong. "Be prepared for the Asian Games" was the catchcry of this group of dedicated shooters upon receiving their hard-earned medals. The Hong Kong Shooting Association will conduct a selection of qualified shooters to join the Hong Kong team at the Asian Games scheduled to take place in September/October 2002 in Busan, Korea. Both HKASC centre firing silver medallist Sergeant Jimmy Kwong chi-keung and WPC Lui were both latecomers to Olympic-style shooting. Mr Kwong developed his firing skills during an eight-week International Shooting Sport Federation course conducted by the Police Shooting Club (PSC). Ms Lui, astonished by both her performance and the ensuing result, stated enthusiastically: "It was very rewarding to achieve the result I did and to be awarded the gold medal, especially as I was also the first police officer ever to win this event in Hong Kong." The PSC conducts Olympic-standard training and practice sessions every Thursday from 7.30 - 9.30 pm at the Police Sports and Recreation Club firing range. Gold medallists Sergeant Lau and Sergeant Lee helped organise training programmes for both men and women beginners and advanced shooters. Those interested in participating should contact the PSC at 2319-0017 during the above-mentioned training hours.
