Representatives of the Police staff associations presented a cheque of $37,828 on November 16, 2001 to US Consul-General Michael Klosson who received it on behalf of the families of the New York police officers who died in the '911' incident.

Overseas Inspectors' Association Chairman Mark Ford-McNicol said: "The donations signify the depth of our feelings over the tragedy.

Colleagues of all ranks have made contributions as a mark of support for fellow police officers and their families."

At the final count the Staff Associations had raised $50,000; this has been forwarded directly to the fund set up in New York to assist the police families affected by the '911' event.
