Carnival to promote road safety

The Force always joins hands with other Government departments and community organisations to promote road safety. One example was its participation in the annual Transport Day 2001 organised by the Transport Department at Sha Tsui Road Playground on December 2.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Operations and Road Safety Council Chairman Lau Yuk-kuen hoped that the event would remind motorists to be calm and patient and to abide by traffic rules and pedestrians to pay attention to road safety so that they would become 'Smart Drivers' and 'Smart Pedestrians' respectively. 'Smart Drivers, Smart Pedestrians' was also the slogan of this year's road safety campaign.

The carnival featured game booths and snack stalls set up by various government departments, public transport operators and trade associations. The Road Safety Section of Traffic New Territories South set up a game stall featuring a quiz on traffic-related issues and a demonstration of a breathalyser and a radar speed detector. The spectators were most interested in the new BMW motorcycle model for traffic officers and queued patiently to take a photograph with the motorcycle.

The T NTS booth is popular among the Transport Day visitors
