The Marine Region Healthy Life Carnival, a family day to promote healthy lifestyle, was held at the Police Sports and Recreation Club on December 9. A family life education talk - 'Key to Successful Parenthood' was organised by the Region together with the Police Welfare Services Group and the Moral Education Concern Group. The talk, delivered by Dr Wong Chung-kwong, was well received by the attendees. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Secretary for Justice Elsie Leung praised their pursuit of a healthy family life. The Department of Health, the Psychological Services Group and a number of Police sports and arts associations were invited to hold a variety of activities including a health check, an exhibition on 'mental health in the workplace', archery, 'windsurfing' on land and a handicraft stall. Some 3,000 people visited the carnival. The day also featured a Healthy Life Slogan Design Competition prize presentation and an announcement by Marine Regional Commander Cheung Chi-shum that the year 2002 would be the 'Marine Region Healthy Life Year'. Meanwhile, a fight crime carnival was held at the Cheung Chau Police Station on December 15 to advise the public to stay away from crime and enhance their understanding of the work of the Police. The Islands District Fight Crime Carnival cum Cheung Chau Police Station Open Day, jointly organised by the Marine Port District and the Islands District Fight Crime Committee (DFCC), aimed at promoting the theme of this year's Fight Crime Publicity Campaign - 'Join Us to Fight Youth Crime' - and strengthening communication between the Police and local residents. Highlights of the carnival included performances by the Police Pipe Band, Junior Police Call members and Police dogs, a lion dance, game booths and an anti-crime exhibition. Visitors also had a chance to board a Marine Police launch and observe the facilities of the police station including the report room, detention cells and interview rooms. Marine Port District Commander Ken Davey, Islands DFCC Chairman Lam Wai-keung and Islands Assistant District Officer Chan Nap-sze officiated at the opening ceremony.
