More than 50 officers from Lei Muk Shue Police Division armed with mops, towels and buckets, spent hours on February 8 in an operation cleaning the homes of the elderly in three public housing estates in the area.

Led by Divisional Commander J.G. Wan, the officers went to the homes of single elderly in Lei Muk Shue, Shek Wai Kok and Shek Yam Estates where they cleaned windows, kitchens and floors "to provide a clean environment for them to welcome the Year of the Horse".

The clean-up operation was jointly organised with Tsuen Wan Police Community Relations Officer and several District Councillors.

Last month, Tuen Mun District mobilised some 60 volunteers for a two-day operation to clean more than 250 homes of single elderly living in the district.

Uniformed Branch officers, civilians and Junior Police Call members took part in "Caring for the live-alone elderly" humanitarian service, which also included repainting the metal gates of their flats.

Tuen Mun Police Community Relations Officer Lam King-kong, who praised the volunteers' contribution towards the success of the operation, said: "Besides fighting crime actively, Police also need to enhance communication with the public and establish a friendly rapport with them."
