More than 164 Police officers comprising 82 teams took part in the Police Adventure Club's 25th Mountain Marathon held last month on Hong Kong Island.

Participants had to complete the two-day gruelling event by trekking and running along hilly paths and roads. The marathon started at Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground and ended at the Police Training School in Aberdeen.

Forty-eight teams, which successfully completed the course, were presented with certificates by the Club Vice-chairman Patrick Chan Kam-hoi.

Mr Chan urged more colleagues to participate in the annual event because any healthy person with a lot of determination could complete the marathon.

Chief Inspector Ma Lo Kin-wah who competed with her husband and their 12-year-old son in the event three years ago had this to say: "I did not have a good physique and had to carry a heavily loaded back pack which I felt was too much for me. But to give a good example to my son, I kept on going. I also received a lot of support from other team members.

"We have gained a lot of useful experience, one of which is learning how to communicate with team members.

"With three years' experience in this event, I can confidently say that participating in mountain marathon does not require the fitness of a Special Duties Unit officer.

"What one need to complete the marathon are good health, basic map-reading knowledge, determination and sheer will power."
