Sam's wife died of cancer about two years ago. In his misfortune, he believed that no one could truly feel his sorrow, and if discussed with friends, it would only evoke their sympathy. Upon repeated advice from his welfare officer, he finally made an appointment to meet a Police clinical psychologist.

Here is his story:

"Not having any work objectives, getting lost in my orientation, I became depressed and lost interest in nearly everything. I also became radical and easily irritated. I was in such a confused state that on the one hand I wanted to put aside all my sorrow, and on the other I believed I should continue to grieve for the death of my wife.

"After repeated encouragement, I decided to talk to my psychologist openly and frankly. Gradually, I found my lost ego. I didn't regret anymore of not taking my own life to be with my deceased wife. I hope that this misfortune will be a motivation for me to be aware that I still have responsibilities to fulfill and enable me to further my career.

"Nowadays, I am devoting my love and attention to our two sons and to continue our lives together. I am now dedicated to bringing them up. I am sure that my wife will be glad and approve of this, and she will support and bless us."

Police Clinical Psychologist's comment:

"Sam used to be very lonely, and struggled with his emotions. Fortunately, he finally sought an appropriate way to solve his problem. We hope that his case can lead you to a deeper thought that problems can be solved more easily if you talk to your psychologist with an open heart."
