Senior Police Constable Li Kam-keung is the only person in Hong Kong who has made 250 blood donations to the Hong Kong Red Cross. Earlier, the Kowloon West Traffic officer was presented with an award for making the record breaking donation by the Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joseph W P Wong, at the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service's Annual Donor Award Ceremony 2002. The 47-year-old officer told OffBeat that he had never considered his benevolent act a remarkable achievement. "Many people out there are doing various things to help people. In my case, I give blood to help those in need," he said. "Being a traffic officer, I have witnessed many traffic accident victims suffering great pain and serious blood loss. There is always a demand for blood to help save accident victims, and this motivates me to donate blood as much as possible." Mr Li, who has been donating blood since his teens, has turned his personal habit into a family tradition. His wife, as well as his two grown up children have all become ardent Red Cross supporters. "My daughter, aged 22, has made over ten blood donations since she was sixteen. In fact, we are always encouraging friends to donate blood because it does no harm at all and it offers invaluable help to those in need," Mr Li added. SPC Li Kam-keung proudly displays his award for being the top blood donor in Hong Kong
