A health check programme offered to Police officers at a discounted price for the past 11 years by the Helen Lee Siu Foon Institute of Sports Medicine (now known as Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine) has been very popular. Because of its popularity, a similar offer has been arranged this year for the Force. The Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine is a non-profit making organisation in Sha Wan Drive, Pok Fu Lam. It is under the joint management of the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation and the University of Hong Kong. It has been offering a complete physical fitness test to Force members and their next-of-kin since 1991 at a special price of $3,300 (normal price is $4,200). The fitness test which lasts about 90 minutes includes a general physical examination, chest X-ray, urine routine and microscopy test, blood investigations (blood component test, liver and kidney function tests, lipid profile test, etc), resting heart and lung function tests and heart function fitness test on treadmill. This test is carried out by a qualified physician. Upon evaluation of the results, a full report and specific advice will be given. Referrals to appropriate specialist doctors can be provided whenever necessary. The discounted price is valid from now until September 30, 2002. Application forms are now available from Personnel Services Branch (PSB). Completed froms should be faxed to CSP PS (Attn: SEO A&SUP PS) at 2865-4799.
