Late night joint inspections of discos and bars |

A late night joint inspection of liquor licensed premises on both sides of the harbour was carried out earlier this month by Police, the Food, Environment and Hygiene Department (FEHD) and the Liquor Licensing Board (LLB). Some 200 officers took part in the operation by inspecting premises which included several discos, bars and restaurants in Wan Chai, Central and Tsuen Wan. The operation was aimed at obtaining a better understanding of the business practice of these premises as well as the degree of nuisance / inconvenience caused to the residents nearby. "All these information would be useful for members of the LLB in their determination and deliberation of liquor licence applications in the future," Miss Dilys Lo, Senior Inspector from the Police Licensing Office told OffBeat. "The operation was carried out successfully as the targets were met and the new members of the LLB had the opportunity to physically visit these premises enabling them a better understanding of the difficulties in the enforcement of liquor licensed premises," Miss Lo added. The operation started with an inspection of four discos and bars in Wan Chai and Central. Special attention was paid to the common nuisance caused to the local residents by the liquor licensed premises. Another inspection was conducted in two other discos in Tsuen Wan, in which around 100 packets of discarded drugs were seized and 14 underage patrons, three boys and 11 girls, were taken to the police station for investigation. The teenagers were later taken home by their parents.
