Juvenile delinquency, particularly the trend of decreasing age of young offenders, has been the main concern of the Government and the public, and among the juvenile crimes, those related to theft, dangerous drugs and computer offences are the most common.

Kwun Tong District, which has been paying close attention to the juvenile delinquency problem all along, earlier this month, held a seminar entitled "Project Embrace Summer Youth Fight Crime Seminar".

More than 600 people, many of them students, attended the event held at the Yan Chai Hospital Wong Wah San Secondary School in Tseung Kwan O.

Local and overseas audiences were able to view the seminar simultaneously through video conferencing web page provided by the school.

As there were too many participants that day, those who were not able to participate at the venue, were able to watch it on-line through video conferencing web page in their own secondary or primary schools.

The District invited not only officers from the Commercial Crime Bureau and Kowloon East Regional Crime Prevention Office to give talks about the law and crime prevention knowledge, but also volunteers from the Christian New Being Fellowship to convey through music their harrowing experience with drugs and their struggles to kick addiction.

In addition, the Narcotics Division of Security Bureau and other organisations held an exhibition outside the seminar venue to introduce summer vacation activities to the students.

The Fight Crime Seminar was hosted by Deputy District Commander of Kwun Tong District, Mr Lam Wah-chiu. Those attending included members of Kwun Tong and Sai Kung District Councils, committee members of Kwun Tong and Sai Kung Fight Crime Committees, outreaching social workers, representatives from various government departments, school representatives and students from 32 secondary schools in the area.
