Despite the heavy rain, the launching ceremony for a 'Road Safety Billboards' campaign organised by the Police Traffic Hong Kong Island and the Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (Hong Kong & Islands) was concluded successfully on Sunday, Auguest 4 at the Queen's Pier in Central.

The event was in support of the 'Pedestrian Road Safety Fortnight' campaign that ran from August 4 to 17.

Officiating guests at the launching ceremony included Chief Superintendent of Traffic Bureau Headquarters, Mr Ling Sin-ching, Regional Commander of Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (Hong Kong & Islands), Dr Liu Kai-ming, and an artiste Mr Steven Ma in the role of "Traffic Hong Kong Island Road Safety Ambassador".

This year's Pedestrian Road Safety Fortnight covered over 90 traffic accident black spots in the territory.

Other than pedestrian road safety, emphasis has also been placed on the prohibition of the use of telecommunication devices while the vehicle was in motion.

Two huge billboards bearing the anti-speeding and anti-drink driving messages were also mounted at the Kowloon-side toll plaza of the Western Harbour Tunnel.
