Some 350 Force members and their families took part in a thought-provoking and fun-filled Hong Kong Island Family Life Education Programme held at the Police Training School in late July. The programme was jointly organised by the Hong Kong Island Regional Headquarters, Police Headquarters, Welfare Services Group of the Personnel Services Branch and the Moral Education Concern Group (MECG). The event kicked off following welcoming speeches by Hong Kong Island Regional Commander, Mr Yuen Ying-lam and the MECG Convenor, Mr Thomas Sin. Among the guests were Dr S.H. Lee and Acting Chief Superintendent, Mr Ellick Tsang Choi-on. Positive Living United Services Chairman, Professor Wong Chung-kwong conducted a seminar for adults on 'Overcoming Stress, Turning Crises into Opportunities and Living a Fulfilled Life'. Meanwhile, social workers and volunteers from Caritas and officers from the Independent Commission Against Corruption organised the children into a number of educational groups. This was followed by a buffet lunch at the Police Training School and a visit to the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence. Officers who attended Professor Wong's lively seminar described it as stimulating, interesting and enlightening. They said that they had benefited immensely from it and would welcome similar activities in the future. The HK Island Family Life Education Programme was part of the Healthy Lifestyle Programme launched by the Force in 1997 to encourage Force members to live a healthy and family-oriented lifestyle.
