Strengthening ties with the media
"Mutual understanding is of the utmost importance in improving the relationship between Police and the media," said Police Public Relations Branch Chief Superintendent Mr Tang How-kong addressing a group of editors gathered for lunch at the Police Officers Club in late August.
Mr Tang explained that he is committed to helping the Police and media understand each other's duties and difficulties, believing that, by doing so, each could help the other better accomplish their respective tasks.
As a step towards this end, Mr Tang invited all local media editors to the luncheon and gave them the opportunity to describe the difficulties they and their subordinates had to face when covering Police operations or incidents handled by them.
"We were pleased to hear their frankly expressed views and suggestions and will use them as a base to further improve Police-media relations," Mr Tang said.
