Knowledge Management
Solution obviates need to re-invent the wheel

Do you remember how nervous you were when you first took over a front line post as a one-pip inspector? Well we have some good news for officers who are in that position because, soon, they will no longer need to re-invent the wheel by learning from their own mistakes. They will be able to learn from the experience and lessons learnt by those who have served in similar posts.

As part of the KM implementation plan, Working Groups on various functional areas have been formed to identify, capture and disseminate job-related knowledge for front-line officers. The first three target areas, in addition to the post of MESUC that was addressed in the pilot scheme for this project, are those of OC DVIT, ASSUC and OSSUC. These were selected as being vital posts which are frequently occupied by junior, inexperienced inspectors who often remain in post for a short period but are expected to be masters of a great deal of procedure and knowledge during their tenure.

The pivotal tasks of knowledge identification and capture will be the responsibility of the respective KM Working Groups which are chaired by superintendents from the relevant policy Wing with members of the highest calibre nominated by regions.

If you have any good ideas or materials, which you think will be beneficial to the Working Groups, please do contact the groups. (See details in Chinese version)

For enquiries or comments on KM in general, please contact Josephine Lau, the CIP ES SQ, at 2866-6958 or by email at cip-es-sq@police.gov.hk.
