A group visit to Border District and Marine West Division facilities was organised in mid-August for over 70 representatives of the electronic and print media.

The visit was intended to enhance bilateral understanding between the media and the Force by demonstrating the high-tech equipment and modus operandi of those responsible for intercepting illegal immigrants.

Director of Operations Mr Tang King-shing gave the media representatives a short briefing before they were taken to visit the Man Kam To Operations Base, the Marine Floating Base in Deep Bay, and the most popular illegal immigrant entry points under their constant surveillance.

Man Kam To Operations Base officers showed the media how to work out an efficient and effective border control with a state-of-the-art CCTV system; while small boat crews working from the Marine floating base staged a demonstration of the seizure of a suspect vessel dashing across the border.

"The visit was a first for many of us and it proved to be most interesting and informative," said one of the media representatives. "We will now have a better understanding of what Police border control operations involve.
