NB officers commended

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Executive Assistant Director, Mr Charles S Prouty, presented certificates of appreciation to three officers formerly serving in the Narcotics Bureau (NB) at a ceremony held at Police Headquarters in January. Also present at the ceremony were the Director of Crime & Security, Mr Chau Foo-cheong; Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Mr Lo Yik-kee, and NB Acting Chief Superintendent Mr Sham Wai-kin.

The officers commended were : Superintendent Mr So Kam-sing, Superintendent Mr Bruce Hawkins, and Detective Police Constable Mr Leung Yat-hei.

The commendation related to a year-long joint FBI-NB investigation culminating, in September 1998, with the neutralisation of a heroin-smuggling syndicate through the arrest and extradition of the syndicate head. He subsequently pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
