Having prepared for several months, the 'Comic Story Design Competition 2002' accomplished in joyful ambience at Tsuen Wan Town Hall on January 27. Apart from efforts by staff of the Regional Crime Prevention Office, New Territories South (RCPO NTS), the success was largely attributed to the support of PCROs and school authorities in the NTS region.

RCPO NTS has always been enthusiastic in promoting healthy development programmes for youths in the region. Appropriate guidance and encouragement were delivered through various activites and publicity campaigns. The Comic Story Design Competition with the theme of 'Peer influences-good, bad...' was one of the highlights in the year of 2002. More than 80 primary and secondary schools participated in this event, with over 5,500 artworks entered in the competition. After a two-tier screening, 21 winning artworks were selected. The 'Most Enthusiastic Participation Award' were won by Tsuen Wan Catholic Primary School and Tung Chung Public School.

The attendance of officiating guests: film director Mr Peter Pau Dak-hei; Mr Wilfred Ng Sau-kei (sponsor and Honorable President of the Working Committee); Mr Steve Lee Yuk-fai (Principal Education Officer, New Territories); Mr Mike Dowie (Regional Commander NTS) , and Mr Tang Kam-moon (Deputy Regional Commander NTS) added luster to the Prize Presentation Ceremony. Moreover, about 600 district celebrities, school representatives, students and parents also showed their support during the ceremony, and found the atmosphere very touching.

All the officiating guests praised the creativity and artistic skills of the participants. From his professional perception, Mr Peter Pau commented that he was amazed by the high standard of the end products. He also encouraged the students to develop their skills into video effects. Mr Pau's encouraging remarks met with joyful applause.

Following the conclusion of the Prize Presentation Ceremony, civic educational publicity campaign continues. The 43 artworks that reached the final judge panel will be produced as a comic storybook. These booklets will be distributed to all schools, community centers and public libraries in NTS. By then, all walks of life will be able to view the artworks and to share the importance of peer influence.
