Admirable achievement by Marathon Training Team

Eighteen members of the Police Athletics Club (PAC) marathon training team achieved very encouraging results at the Mizuno Hong Kong Half-Marathon 2003 held on January 12 at Tai Mei Tuk, Tai Po. It was their first attempt in an open event after 10 weeks' diligent training. All participating members completed the race successfully.

The race attracted over 2,000 participants. PAC marathon training team members led by PAC coach Mr Fung Wah-tim achieved amazing results. It was a fierce contest and despite very strong competitors, team member Mr Ching Ying-wai being an elite distance runner did not let us down. He crossed the finish line at 75'46" and won the Men's Senior First Runner-up (8th position overall).

Surprisingly, despite it being his first ever attempt in any open event, another team member Mr Lai Hok-yan also won the Men's Open Second Runner-up (11th position overall) in 76'37". Another team member Mr Lo Kin-leung also made his best record of 82'33" and achieved 54th in the overall position. The three team members above scored a total of 73 marks in the team competition and won the 4th Team Overall Championship ahead of more than 50 other competing teams.

Team member Mr Chan Wai-kei also created his best record of 87' at the race. Eleven other members of the training team also set inspiring new records of their own, ranging from five to 26 minutes faster than their previous best records.
