In Word, you can edit your text in different languages, like English (US), English (UK), Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), etc.
To edit in a particular language, you must first enable the language for use in Word. It will then add some special commands in the "Format" menu for you to edit that language with its special characters and punctuation marks. Furthermore, Word automatically sets the spelling and grammar checkers to recognise them so that you don't get a lot of false red and green underlines in your document.
To enable any other language, follow these steps:
1. Choose Start --> Programs --> Microsoft Office Tools --> Microsoft Office Language Setting. You will see the dialog box below.
3. Click the "Apply" button to activate the language without quitting Word, or click the "OK" button to enable the language after restarting Word.
However, you must be aware that this feature is only available in Common Terminals and Chinese Windows NT Common Desktop PCs under our Force environment.
Changing a Dictionary's Language
When editing a document in any language, you must also select the corresponding language dictionary; otherwise, Word will use the wrong spelling rules for the words. Likewise, if your document is in English (US) but you choose the English (UK) dictionary, Word will flag "color" as an error and will suggest "colour" as the correct spelling.
1. In Word, choose Tools --> Language --> Set Language. The "Language" dialog box will appear.
2. Select a language from the "Mark selected text as" list. The spelling and grammar tools will automatically support the language you choose, unless you select the "Do not Check Spelling Or Grammar" check box.
3. To set the current language used in Word, click the "Default" button.
4. Click "OK".
Next time, I will introduce you how to obtain statistics about your document.
