The strongest man in the Force breaks four records

The Force Bodybuilding & Powerlifting Club entered a team of four lifters in the Hong Kong Powerlifting Championship held in April.

Unfortunately, two of them could not attend because of duties related to the SARS outbreak. That left only two officers to represent the Force: Central District Detective Senior Inspector Mr David Donnelly and New Territories South Emergency Unit Police Constable Mr Wong Wai-kwan.

Mr Wong was lifting in the 82.5 kg category and, very creditably, came second to a far more experienced lifter. He is most certainly a force to be reckoned with in the future.

Despite being 41 years old, Mr Donnelly, who was lifting in the 100 kg category, rose to the challenge against eager and younger competitors to become Overall Winner and set four new Hong Kong records. He improved on the record 217 kg 'Squat' record by lifting 235 kg. He did likewise with the 165 kg 'Benchpress' record by lifting 170 kg. As if that was not enough, he raised the 'Deadlift' record from 265 kg to 272.5 kg and the 'Overall Total' record of 677.5 kg to 677.9 kg.

There is no doubt that Mr Donnelly can justifiably be described as the strongest man in the Force, and the strongest man in Hong Kong. After a short break in training he will begin preparing for the World Police & Fire Games in Barcelona and, hopefully come back with a medal or two.
