Last time I introduced the ways of arraying application windows on the desktop and resizing the taskbar in order to facilitate access to the applications that we need. To help you apply more Windows desktop functions for your work, we will continue to look at other practical desktop functions.

Quick Access to a Recently Used Document

Every time when we want to open a recently used document, we have to sort through the levels of folders to look for it. Undoubtedly it will waste a lot of time if we need to repeat such operation procedures.

In fact, we can have a handy way to look for the document, because Windows operating system keeps a history list of the recently used document and makes a shortcut for each in the Start Menu. Through these shortcuts, they can save our time in locating the document and therefore enhance our working efficiency tremendously. Follow the steps below:

1.Click the "Start" button and choose the "Documents" option. The submenu will then display the history list of the document recently used or opened.

2.Select the required shortcut to open the file.

Removing the History List of Documents

Amidst the history list of the recently used documents, some of them may contain confidential data that we do not even want others to know their existence. In this case, you can remove them from the list so as to improve the security level. Follow the steps below:

1.Click the "Start" button and then select "Settings" ¡÷ "Taskbar";

2.Select the "Start Menu Programs" tab;

3.In the "Documents menu" section, click the "Clear" button once;

4. Click the "OK" button.

Hiding the Taskbar

Sometimes we may not use the taskbar but it certainly occupies some space of the desktop. If we want to maximise the desktop space or let the taskbar only appear when we need it, we can set the taskbar to "Auto hide". Follow the steps below:

1.Click the "Start" button, and then select "Settings" ¡÷ "Taskbar";

2.Select the "Taskbar Options" tab;

3.Click to select the "Auto hide" option;

4.Click the "OK" button.

Now the taskbar is hidden as you can see. But when we move the mouse pointer to the bottom edge of the screen, it appears again.

Next time I'll present another helpful tip about ways of quickly searching files.
