The Force is fortunate in having a well-established and efficiently-operated organisation to manage and develop some first-class sports and recreational facilities. Police work can be a stressful and demanding job, which makes it very important that the Force does all it can to help officers and their families make the most of their leisure time - and that is where the Clubs, Catering, Sports and Recreation (CCSR) Group comes in. Based out of Dominion Centre, CCSR staff are dedicated to providing colleagues with professionally organised and managed recreational opportunities in our police stations, clubs, recreation centres, and beyond. In this article, Police Officers' Club Assistant Manager Inspector Robbie McRobbie, describes exactly what is on offer and where.
Sports Unit
If you were to ask officers in the street what the duties of the Sports Unit were, what do you think they would say? Most, I am sure, would probably say "the provision and supervision of the Force's 62 Fitness Training Rooms." Well, that would be true but it has a lot of other responsibilities. For example, did you know that they play a supervisory role for the Force's 298 Amusement Game Machines or that they maintain the Healthy Lifestyle Website and organise the Anti-Smoking Campaign?
They also oversee the management of the PHQ Exercise Centre, monitor the Force Annual Fitness Test and, in recent years, they have also been devoting considerable time and energy on organising Force participation in major international sporting events, particularly the biennial World Police & Fire Games. Finally, the Sports Unit provides support and encouragement to the Force's 32 sports clubs and 10 arts clubs.
Police Officers' Club
The Police Officers' Club is now 17 years old, but our mission remains as clear today as it was in 1986 - to provide a varied and interesting range of sports and leisure opportunities for our members in a professionally managed, well-maintained and safe environment.
Over the last few months alone, improvements to the club have included the purchase of new equipment for the Fitness Centre, the upgrading of the visual-aids facilities in all three of our Conference Rooms, and the installation of Cable TV in the bar and restaurant. In addition, with the kind assistance of Information Technology Branch, we have re-designed our website (www.poc.org.hk) and introduced a Discussion Board on POINT.
Our range of social events provides something for all the family, with Fireworks Dinners, Christmas and New Year Parties, Boxing Day Dinner, Elvis Night, German Night, Kung Fu Night, Classical Music Concert, Social Dance Parties, as well as lots of entertainment for kids all year round. Hope to see you at the Club soon!
Police Sports & Recreation Club
At the Police Sports & Recreation Club (PSRC), we believe that regular participation in recreation and sports activities not only helps our Members improve their physical and mental fitness, but also releases the stress built up during their daily lives. Therefore, we have been working hard to ensure that we can offer a wide range of well-maintained facilities, such as the popular Fitness Gallery that features the latest cardio fitness equipment, interesting magazines, and a giant window overlooking the sports pitches.
Outside, work has recently been completed on the elegant new BBQ site, 'The Pavilion', a beautifully designed Chinese Garden with a really relaxing ambience. If you prefer more strenuous activity, why not join us for our ballroom dance parties every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights in the Yi Yat Hin Restaurant? There are also special sports and social events throughout the year. For an enhanced happy and healthy lifestyle visit the club regularly.
Catering Unit
Napoleon once said that his army marched on its stomach, and food is equally important in getting the best performance out of police officers! The task of ensuring that officers are properly fed and watered is the responsibility of the Catering Unit, and they are committed to looking after you anytime and anywhere; from supervising the station canteens, to organising meal subsidies, and even arranging emergency catering in the field. The aim is to ensure that a hot and nutritious meal is available just when you need it most!
