Six officials from Guangzhou, Guangdong, Dongguan and Shenzhen Public Security Bureaux (PSB) made a visit to New Territories North (NTN) in late June. They were welcomed by NTN Regional Crime Unit Team Two Detective Chief Inspector Mr David Wan Tat-wai. The visitors were first given a briefing by NTN (Crime) Senior Superintendent, Mr Leung Ka-ming, and representatives from Organised Crime & Triad Bureau on general crime trends in region and, in particular, the Force strategy to deal with cross-boundary vehicle crime. They then visited Lok Ma Chau Boundary Crossing Point for a demonstration on enforcement actions and checks against suspicious trailers. A meeting followed this with their hosts and representatives from the Criminal Intelligence Bureau at which they discussed the exchange of intelligence on cross-boundary vehicle/trailer theft. They also visited Marine Division and were briefed on tactics and equipment deployed to counter vehicle smuggling. Mr Wan told Offbeat: "The general consensus was that that the visit helped to establish an effective communication system between the Hong Kong Police and their PSB counterparts." The meeting had also laid a solid foundation to further enhance future co-operation to combat cross-boundary crimes, in particular vehicle crime, he added.
