Marine Outer Waters District Commander Mr Michael Parker recently received a Letter of Appreciation from a resident on Tsing Yi thanking the crew of Police Launch 30 for their assistance in handling an accident involving his pleasure craft in rough seas off Sheung Sze Wan, Sai Kung, during the approach of Typhoon Koni. Sergeant Mr Tang Leung-hong and his crew went to the assistance of the craft, which had seven adults and children aboard, after its propellers were fouled by fishing nets and the engine stopped. The craft's owner was highly impressed with "the professionalism evidenced by their prompt response, skilful tactics, resource knowledge and consideration and politeness". Kowloon East Regional Commander Mr Mak Man-poon, meanwhile, received a Letter of Appreciation from the Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department Assistant Director (Country & Marine Parks), Dr Wong Fook-yee, for officers at Sai Kung Division who were among the first to render assistance to a stranded sperm whale. "They not only supported our work but also helped very much in controlling the crowd and reporters and ensuring their safety," Dr Wong wrote in his letter.
