Sponsors and volunteers required for Sedan Chair Race

PTU Headquarters' "Matilda Hospital Sedan Chair' Racing Team is appealing for sponsors and volunteers for its participation in this year's "Sedan Chair Race" on The Peak.

At the same time, the team is anxious to recapture the champion title, which it narrowly lost to HSBC last year.

This key charity event is scheduled to take place at the Matilda Hospital, Mount Kellet Road, starting at 10 am on Sunday, November 16.

The race was first held in 1975, and since then over $30 million have been raised for charities. Last year as a "fund-raising" incentive, the Team Captain, SIP Simon Southgate, shaved his head bald in an effort to raise funds. As this year's captain is already bald, the team is now looking for volunteers.

The gruelling event requires a team of eight persons to carry a sedan chair, with a "live" person in it, around a 3.2 km course. The team is currently training hard and hopes to win this year. The event is more than an athletic event; it is a chance for everyone to pitch in for worthy causes.

Those wishing to sponsor the team are requested to make out cheques payable to "Matilda Charities Fund" and send them to CIP Ian Strange at PTU HQ. Donations exceeding $100 are tax deductible and receipts will be issued.

More details about the race and the charities involved are available on website www.sedanchairace.org
