The Marine Region held a Professional Seamanship Contest at Marine East Division on October 24 to promote culture of safety at sea through professionalism and maritime ability, and to foster "esprit de corps" among various units.

A total of 175 officers competed in five maritime simulation skill matches, which were designed on the concepts of rescue, trouble shooting at sea, rope work, fire-fighting and general seamanship knowledge. Colleagues and civilian staff turned out in force to cheer up the participants.

The keenly contested event concluded with Marine East Division clinching the overall championship by narrowly beating Marine South Divison. Small Boat Division, which displayed a lot of motivation and enthusiasm throughout the contest, was adjudicated to be the unit with the best "esprit de corps".
