The Police Officers Club's multi-purpose sports hall recently played host to the judging of the final round of the Force Slogan Design Competition, immediately followed by the presentation of awards to the winners by Director of Management Services Mr Yam Tat-wing.
Participants, together with invited guests from the Force who attended the ceremony held on November 1, were in for some surprises. The final round of the competition required entrants to present their entries. Scores for these performances, given by a panel of distinguished judges, were added to the marks awarded during initial judging which had whittled down almost 400 entries to the 11 finalists invited to present their creations. From the poetic eloquence of Chief Inspector Jean Ward's description of the philosophy behind his entry, "Your Streets Our Beat" (which went on to win the English category), to the rousing chorus from the "little Sweethearts" of the Staff Relations Group (introducing the entry which won the best performance award), the entire audience was captivated by the enthusiasm and innovation on display. After presenting prizes by Assistant Commissioner (Service Quality) Mr Wong Doon-yee, Mr Yam spoke highly of all the entries and said that the competition was much more than just the selection of slogans. "It clearly got many people into thinking about why police work is so much more than a job. I am really most impressed by the amount of preparation and depth of thought that everyone has put into their presentations. We should all be proud of the fact that what we have seen here today represents the spirit and genuine dedication of our Force," he noted.
