Seven members of the Standing Committee on Disciplined Services Salaries and Conditions of Service (SCDS) visited Mong Kok Police Station last month for an update on the work of the Divisional Investigation Teams and special operations.

The visitors were SCDS Chairman Mr Bernard Chan, and members Mr Nicky Lo (Chairman of Police Sub-Committee), Prof Chan Yuk-shee, Mr Eddie Ng, Mr Joseph Ho, Mr Ip Kwok-him and Mr Herbert Tsoi.

The visit began with an overview on special operations undertaken to detect serious crime, relevant management policies, preparation and planning of these operations, and the extreme difficulties and dangers encountered by officers engaged in these special operations. The SCDS members also met a group of these officers to learn their experience.

During the second part of the visit, Mong Kok District Chief Inspector Crime 1 Kevin Sin, gave an introduction of the general role and function of Divisional Investigation Teams (DVITs), with the aid of a video showing a typical late night violence in Mong Kok. Having toured the DVIT facilities, the SCDS members were divided in groups to meet DVIT officers of all ranks, and had frank dialogues about their work and the challenges they faced.

After the visit, Mr Chan wrote to the Commissioner, expressing how impressed he and his members had been with these officers' sense of mission and ability to work in dire circumstances, and with the work of DVIT officers.
