Nine Macao Customs officers, who have undergone training with Marine Region, have highly praised Marine Police's professionalism, equipment and training facilities, as well as individual Marine officers' expertise.

The Macao officers spent nearly one month in Marine Region on a training and operational attachment from March 25 to April 23. In an appreciation letter, the officers thanked Marine Region's hospitality, and described their attachment as an "eye-opener" and "very rewarding".

The letter added: "During those days, you, as training officers, have briefed us on the hulls, holds, pipes, safety measures, working environment, and crew facilities, etc. You also have taught us the functions and operations of navigational equipment, communication systems, search and rescue methods, and have shared with us your problems at work and your solutions. You have even gone to great length in taking care of our food and lodging! What we have benefited most for life are the concepts and philosophies that you have imparted to us."

The Macao officers pointed out that they not only have gained the knowledge of policing at sea, but also have cultivated friendship between Hong Kong Marine Police and Macao Customs Services.

During their attachment, the nine Macao officers had worked on board the state-of-the-art Police Launch 63, as well as on board different launches for nighttime duties in Marine South Division (MSDIV).

To mark the successful conclusion of the attachment and to bid farewell to the Macao officers, a ceremony was held at MSDIV on April 23. Attending the ceremony were Acting Marine Regional Commander Peter Burbidge-King, and the Director General of Macao Customs Services, Mr Choi Lai-hang.

The Macao officers' attachment, as well as those by officers from the Singapore Police Coast Guard and the United Arab Emirates Maritime Security Force, indicate the high regard with which Marine Police are held by overseas law enforcement agencies.
