Pursue service quality and gain appreciation

The bounden duties of police officers are getting rid of criminals, protecting lives and property and striving to provide a safe living environment. The performances of the Hong Kong Police Force in these respects are obvious, and we are proud of being members of the Force. However, we should not rest on our laurels - on the contrary, we should constantly raise the quality of the services provided by individual officers or the Force as a whole. We should not allow lapses happen in times of pressure and adversities so as to protect the Force's image and avert complaints against police.

As society progresses and as the Force improves its transparency, the public better understand our work and, at the same time, expect better services from us. However, they would complain if they are not satisfied.

Feedback reveals that many complaints have arisen from misunderstanding and could have been avoided. The ways to reduce such complaints are simple: be courteous during execution of duties; put ourselves in the complainants' positions so as to understand their views and feelings; exercise restraint and be fair and impartial. These would help reduce the chance of giving rise to misunderstanding.

I reckon that nowadays police officers not only exert themselves in enforcing the law but also strive for service quality. It is only by doing so that we can gain support and appreciation from the public.
