Airport Authority Chairman Dr Victor Fung recently gave a talk on the development of the Pearl River Delta (PRD) to an audience of senior superintendents and above at the invitation of Commissioner Lee Ming-kwai.
Mr Lee has invited Dr Fung to give the presentation, bearing in mind that a PEST (Political, Economic, Social, Technological) analysis is often used to develop a better understanding of the environment in which an organisation operates.
A qualified expert on the PRD, Dr Fung was most enlightening when he shared his vision on the future of the Region. He also spoke on the future of Hong Kong in the contexts of its status as a major seaboard node for the communication infrastructure of the Region centred in Guangdong and linked by road and rail networks to not only the North but also the West, and thus overland to the rest of Asia.
Dr Fung pointed out that development of this infrastructure - much more efficient than the traditional water routes of China - and the free flow of capital, labour and ideas this will bring, will not only assist Hong Kong develop its potential as the bridge of China to the West but also bring challenge Hong Kong has never faced before.
