Airport District and officers honoured for achievements in sports and arts

Airport District and 21 officers have been honoured for their achievements in sports and arts within and outside the Force in 2003.

Airport District has for the fourth consecutive year won the Purdon Shield with its all round sporting achievements.

Among the officers, Railway District Police Constable Lai Hok-yan has clinched the Watson Cup with his contribution to enhancing the Force's reputation in the local sporting circle.

Fifteen officers have won the Force Colours Award for Sport with their outstanding contributions to sports as either a player or an administrator. They are Senior Inspector Christopher Irvine (athletics), Senior Inspector Lam Hung-chuen (basketball), Station Sergeant Shum Kam-tim (Chinese Wushu), Sergeant Fong Yau-fat (football referee), Senior Inspector Brendan Lim Che-chung (golfing), Station Sergeant Chai Ka-fai (lawn bowls), Senior Inspector Anthony William Lothian (rugby), Sergeant Li Wing-wah (rugby), Woman Police Constable Wong Tung-nei (shooting), Station Sergeant Chiu Ho-wah (squash), Chief Inspector Cheung Wui (swimming), Chief Superintendent Lee Siu-kin (table tennis), Chief Inspector Ip Po-chuen (table tennis), Woman Police Constable Choy Siu-kuk (volleyball) and Senior Police Constable Lee Ho-hon (volleyball).

Winning the Force Colours Award for Arts are Sergeant William Ho Wai-lim (children's choir), Clerical Officer Ho Siu-ching (painting and calligraphy), Station Sergeant Ip Lap-ngai (philately), Woman Chief Inspector Chan Mi-ching (choir) and Woman Station Sergeant Chiu Choi-hung (handicraft).

Officiating at the prize presentation ceremony, Commissioner Lee Ming-kwai reiterated that the Force had gone to great lengths to encourage more officers to participate in arts, cultural or sporting activities in spare time so as to establish a healthy lifestyle and habit.

"This will not only relieve work pressure to the benefits of mental and physical health, but also bring pleasure to the whole family. I expect to see your continued participation in various arts and sporting activities in the year to come, and hope to see more new faces, indicating that more colleagues have established a healthy lifestyle," said Mr Lee.
