A local resident and two Mainland visitors have written to the Force to praise five frontline officers for the services they had provided.

The officers are Police Constable Wong Yeung-yiu from NTS Traffic's Tsuen Wan/Kwai Tsing Traffic Enforcement & Control; Sergeant Li Ching-wah and Police Constable Leung Wai-sang from Sha Tau Kok Division; and Sergeant Yu Man-fung and Woman Police Constable Yiu Pui-sze from Lo Wu Border Control Point Report Room.

The officers have earned compliments with their performances in a traffic accident in Kowloon, a trade dispute in Chung Ying Street, Sha Tau Kok, and a request for assistance.

PC Wong was off-duty when he helped passengers leave a double-decker bus and attended to injured passengers after the bus collided with a private car in Castle Peak Road on April 25.

One of the passengers, a Mr Chan, was so impressed by PC Wong's performance in the traffic accident that he wrote to New Territories South Region to praise him as a credit to the Force.

Mr Chan, whose wife was seriously injured in the accident, said in his letter that many passengers were injuried in the mishap, which "was chaotic like the end of the world". "At this moment a young man came forward, told the passengers to remain calm, and, together with the bus driver, helped them leave the vehicle in an orderly manner, thus avoiding the disaster of a stampede. He also administered first aid to, and comforted, the injured passengers lying on the ground until ambulances arrived."

The young man was later identified as an off-duty policeman, Mr Chan said in his letter.

In the second case of "thank you", a Shenzhen resident has sent an e-mail to the Commissioner to thank SGT Li and PC Leung for helping him settle a dispute with a shopkeeper in Chung Ying Street and obtain a refund of $8,100 for the purchase of a camera last month.

The Mainland visitor said he was very impressed by the two officers' professionalism, efficiency and enthusiasm, and asked the Commissioner to convey his appreciation to them.

It was the second time this year that SGT Li had won the compliments of Mainland visitors to Chung Ying Street. A few months ago, a group of visitors from Zhejiang Province wrote to the Force to thank him for providing assistance in a similar case.

In the third case, a woman Mainland visitor thanked SGT Yu and WPC Yiu for locating her husband.

The couple was visiting Hong Kong on May 5 when they were separated at Kowloon Tong MTR Station. The woman had searched in vain for her husband for more than five hours. Subsequently, she approached the Lo Wu Border Control Point Report Room for assistance. The couple was re-united two-and-a-half hours later as a result of the efforts made by SGT Yu and WPC Yiu.

In a letter to the Force, the woman said what the officers had done for her demonstrated the Force's "excellent quality".

Meanwhile, Border District Commander Fung Kwok-on is very pleased with his officers' performances, which, he said, had truly reflected the Force's motto of "We serve with Pride and Care".
