The vision of "Zero Accidents on the Road, Hong Kong's Goal", together with the winning entry of a symbol competition, will become a brand name for road safety in Hong Kong.
This road safety vision has been selected from 3,146 entries to an open competition organised by the Road Safety Council (RSC) in November last year. Twenty-five short listed entries were put on the Internet for the public to pick the winner. Speaking at a prize presentation ceremony earlier this month, RSC Chairman and Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Tang King-shing said a "Road Safety Symbol Design Competition" was also organised in March 2004 to reflect the road safety vision and to serve as a road safety brand name. Design of the winning symbol, selected from 2,888 entries, takes the shape of an egg, indicating "zero accident", circled by a road in "S" shape to represent road safety. Mr P C Tan, Chairman of ExxonMobil Hong Kong Limited, a key supporter of the two competitions, said his company was pleased to be a partner with RSC over the years and the vision of "Zero Accidents on the Road, Hong Kong's Goal" echoed ExxonMobil's motto of "Nobody Gets Hurt". "We can all strive to achieve this together," he noted. Famous artistes, Hacken Lee and Kelly Chen, will help promote the vision and symbol as "Road Safety Ambassadors". Mr Lee attended the ceremony to remind young people of road safety tips. During the ceremony, participants sang a Road Safety Vision theme song composed by Hans Chong, an amateur composer of the band "Fuzzo", and Joel Wong, lyric composer, to disseminate the vision to the community.
