Yau Tsim District (YT DIST) has taken another initiative to enhance services to ethnic minority communities and mutual communication and understanding.

The latest initiative took the form of an "Ethnic Minority Policies Meeting" held in Tsim Sha Tsui Police Station, which was attended by 34 leaders from ethnic minority communities in Wan Chai, Yau Tsim, Tsuen Wan and Yuen Long.

Besides Assistant Divisional Commander (Crime) Mike Howard and Police Community Relations Officer (PCRO) Lau Chi-pui, the PCROs and heads of crime units from the four districts were also present at the meeting.

Explaining the objectives of the meeting, Mr Howard informed the community leaders that a series of documents, for example crime information form, would be translated into Urdu and Nepalese languages to make it more convenient for ethnic minority communities to report crime or provide information. After this, the various PCROs and unit heads provided an update on recruitment of ethnic minority children as Junior Police Call (JPC) members in their districts. They also stressed that they attached importance to maintaining good relations and communication with ethnic minority communities.

The meeting was a great success, as evidenced by the many and spontaneous questions on police policies, raised by the community leaders, who also welcome more similar meetings in the future.

Ethnic Minority Policies Meeting is well received
